Default Newbie question...plz help.

i am looking for a 98-2002 Trans am,so i guess my first question is that does anybody have a manual trans am(or firebird formula)? not anything over $900.
But i have been thinking of getting a high mileage, low priced firebird or trans am so i can replace it with a LS1 with a manual transmission. so if i find a automatic firebird or TA then what will i have to do with it to make it a manual transmission, if i have the engine and manual transmission already? where is a good place to get it installed and how much will the installation be? thanks for any help.

I hope you meant $9,000. If you want a LS1 TA for $900 then all I can say is GOOD FRIGGEN LUCK

Best thing you can do is hold out for an M6. The M6 to A4 swap includes needing a tranny, clutch, pedals, wiring harness, crossmember, PCM reflash, shifter, ect. Expect to pay $2000-3000 in parts and I would estimate $1000-1500 for install if you pay a shop to do it.

Of course those numbers could be less if you strike a deal with the shop and or find good bargains on used parts. But I would estimate $3000 just to be on the safe side.

try doing a search on the craigslist in your area. ebay is also a good place to look too. If anything, hold out and get the m6, dont even think about doing a a4-m6 swap; its not even worth it. $9000 will get you a decent trans am. My t/a (see sig) was bought for $9500, only had 58k and was mechanically sound with only a few exterior/interior flaws.

Default i changed my mind...

well instead of getting a A4 i think i am going to get a V6 manual. If i was going to get this then what would i expect to pay for a V8 manual motor and transmission...parts and installation.

PS: lol i meant $9000 ^^^

If you already have an LS1 & M6 I'd buy a Trans Am or Formula sans Engine & Tranny so that it should bolt right in. Or sell the LS1 & M6 you have now and either put it towards the car you'd be purchasing or mods. With doing a V8 swap into a V6 it's a bit of work. You just have to be willing to do all the work it requires and figure that it is worth it. Do a seach on this forum and if you can't find anything go to firebirdv6.com. A couple of people on here have done the V6 to LS1 swap I think.
