What's the other end of the purge switch connected to? I believe it should be ground.
you are correct pin 86 in his drawing should be a ground for the purge relay to work. Also the blue wires on the wot switch should be activating a relay that feeds power to the solenoids and the solenoids should have their own ground. see figure 7 in the link.
