Default Spraying in 1st ?

Ok, I tried doing a search and couldnt find anything on what Im trying to find out. Should I spray in 1st gear? I have a NX Wet kit, and I'll probably do 100hp shot or so. I have the FPSS, WOT switch, and Window switch. Im also getting a beef'd up transmission installed this weekend and Ive heard a few things but never anything definative...should I be spraying in 1st gear? Is it suicide for a4's ? If not what can I do to not spray 1st. Thanks guys

If you don't want to spray in first, just wait until you're in second gear to activate it.

I run a 100 shot on my NX wet kit and spray in first (only at the track with drag radials on, otheriwse I have no traction).

Usually in first yes, you'll get a better launch/60ft time, as long as traction is to be had. You can do a first gear lockout on a single hit or more common on a dual stage, to split up the torque spike.

I do have Mickey Thompsons so I will hope traction wont be a huge issue. I was just concerned about my 10bolt and 4l60e. I suppose I could eventually make my NX kit a dual stage system and plumb lines/noids into the bottom half of the MAF so that the shot out of the hole isnt so big. So I should be ok with my stock 10bolt and beefed up 4l60e with that 100shot out of the hole?

Thanks again guys.

the 10 bolt... I'd start lookin for a replacment... teh kind of power you are talking about making isn't gonna do much for the life of that rear, esp. with any type of traction.

Yeah, Id like to atleast survive the summer with it if I can before I worry about a new rear, here's hoping! So, so far Id say most people are spraying in 1st and it shouldnt be a big deal for my trans?

in my 00 formula when it had the stock converter, i'd hit the 200 shot in first gear at about 1800-2000 rpm. depending on track, i could do this with regular tires. now that i have the Yank PY3400E in the car, i have to wait until 2500 rpms. might just need to heat the DRs up some more is all. need more practice with the converter.

Im not sure what kind of nitrous sytem you had, but I wont be spraying till after 3000rpm being that its a MAF kit and has to go thru the intake manifold. However, thanks for the reply, makes me feel more comfortable now about spraying in first.

I've been spraying thru first almost a year now, stock bottom end, stock tranny, stock rear end, no problems. I also spray thru my shifts. But there is one thing that is saving my ***. My NX Maximizer progressive controller. Makes it much easier on the initial hit and helps traction as well. I highly recommend a progressive controller.

If you can get the traction deffinetly do it. Way better times. If you can't, you need to decide between some sticky's(hope you don't mind em pickin up all the little rocks on the road) or just not spray in first.

yeah, i don't subscribe to the 'you can't hit it until 3000 rpm club either'. been doing this too long to listen to the safety safari experts. if the car can handle it, do it. my nozzle is in front of the TB. i don't care what anyone says, the air is moving pretty quickly through the intake at 2000 rpms. puddling just isn't an issue. here's a synopsis of what happens ET wise the sooner you hit it. i did this in my 99 TA.

2500 rpm = 12.40
2000 rpm = 12.20
1800 rpm = 12.05

same night three runs in a row. the sooner you hit it, the lower the ET. the later you hit it, the higher the MPH is all you get.

remember what i said. if the car can handle it, then do it. i also did a 1500 rpm hit that night. tires went up in smoke. and those were nitto DRs. also, remember to pay for any consequence that it brings. i take the chance. i'm kinda debating going to 250. others have.
