which will help me more for hooking at the track?
I am limmited by my wheel wells and my suspension
they will be for track use only

I run the 275/50 17's without any issues.

I remember your GTO had the wheel well lips ground off so clearance shouldnt be a problem.

The 16s should have more bite if they'll clear the fenders & brakes.

I know 16" rims won't work in the front, but I'm not sure about the back. You would need to test fit a set with your desired offset and let us know.

Some people have gotten 305/35/17 to work with a custom offset rear wheel and slight modification to the fender or the suspension arm.

The 16's with more sidewall will be more forgiving to drivetrain on hard launches with the stick.

16's will fit the brakes

I've got an extra set of stock 17's too

trying to decide what to order.
