I would appreciate it if when quoting my post, you attribute those comments to their original source, rather than making it appear as if I made those statements. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to read them in their original context in the CZ28.com thread linked above.
We realize the location is not ideal for everyone. People may not want to travel further than their home track to participate in a magazine shootout and that's fine. If we can't find enough participants, Hunkins may reexamine the parameters. It looks like we've already got enough cars for another LT1 shootout, but it would be nice to add LS1s to the mix. Is it stacked to our benefit? Of course! We have to make this thing work within the constraints of our budget and holding the event at Englishtown makes that possible.

All cars must produce a current, valid insurance card for their particular vehicle. No "company insurance cards," no "dealer insurance cards", no "temporary" insurance cards. Only insurance cards for that stated vehicle.
If u paid as much for insurance and dealer tags like we do there is no way in hell i am going to spend another 2 grand for insurance and a hundred or so for a tag.

Hmmmm, my car is licensed and insured. Wonder what it would take to keep it quiet... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
FWIW Jim, I AM and NHRA licensed driver.
Oh yeah Java...Hunkins is arrogant in person too...lol. I think he's proud of it.

I would certainly be interested in this. Street legal daily driver, fully insured. I do wonder how loud a 422 going through ORY and a Corsa would be during burnout - not sure if I would pass or not. The exhaust is really not loud except when I really get into it.
One other thing - adding the spray makes the car louder. I could pass during the burnout, but when spraying in the pass, it could be louder. How do you handle this?

I have a corvette that I drive all the time on the street and it more than likely will not Pass the SOUND test... Why go to a drag strip that has a sound rule??? They need to relocate the strip...

Re: GMHTP is doing another shootout and looking for LS1s
I know its a difficult concept for a Texan to grasp, but they're just about out of room in New Jersey. People in New Jersey still want to race, so that forces tracks to comply with local noise ordinances pushed through by the same kind of people who move next to an airport and start complaining about the noise.
Our goal is not to bring in every LS1 and LT1 in the country and we know the noise resticition will be too prohibitive for some and the NHRA tech requirements might eliminate others. That does leave us with a pool of cars that are much closer to street cars than purpose-built drag cars.
As for the noise requirements, Hunkins has said 94dB is the limit, although the information from the E-town website says 90dB. Perhaps there are different requirements for different times of the day, just as the NHRA weekends are exempt. Whatever the case may be, I asked Hunkins to post specifics on where the cars would be tested from and unless he says otherwise, I would think E-towns testing procedures would be the standard.
Most cars in the last shootout tried to get by with more on their first run, but had to cap their exhausts afterwards. The one car we couldn't let participate was consistently over 100 dB and couldn't make any significant changes at the track to quiet the car.
The rules are from http://www.etownraceway.com
RACEWAY PARK NOISE REGULATIONS
ALL FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY RACERS READ THIS!
Corredores de los Viernes el la noche y los Sabados en la tarde
FAVOR LEER
Raceway Park has implemented a new sound level policy for Friday Street Night and Saturday muffled racing. The maximum sound level for these days is 90 db from 100 feet away.
NO EXCEPTIONS!
Some suggestions to achieve these desired levels are:
1. The biggest chamber style muffler you can find.
2. Do not use "bullet" style mufflers, Glasspacks, or collector mufflers as they are too loud to meet the desirable level.
3. Use exhaust pipe before and after muffler, tailpipes if possible
We are trying to achieve a "street" sound level. Noise is a problem for many racetracks, it is imperative that all Friday and Saturday competitors adhere to the new rules. There WILL BE NO GRACE PERIOD, if you are too loud you will not race.
Raceway Park is not trying to drive anyone away. The street program is vital to our business and we appreciate you as our customer. These steps are being taken to ensure the future of the street program at Raceway Park.
Please, do not regard this letter as only a request, it is a requirement. Understand this is being done to comply with our current noise regulations. If you want to db test your vehicle, Radio Shack has a meter part number 33-2050 for around thirty dollars. If you do not want to buy the meter or you think your car is quiet enough we will gladly check the decibels at Tech Inspection at no charge, but remember if it is to loud you will not race. The proper settings for the meter are:
· Response slow
· Weighting A scale
· Take the readings from 100 feet from the back of the car under load or when you let the clutch out is should read 90 db or less.
We thank you for your cooperation with this new requirement. Your complete compliance will enable our track to continue operating the Friday Night and Saturday programs for your racing pleasure. Please feel free to call us at (732) 446-7800 should you need any assistance in meeting this requirement. Thank you for your cooperation.

My car is VERY quiet (ask anyone that was at the Thunder Shootout), has no weight removed, is daily-drivable (its here at work today), and runs mid 10s consistently without any poweradders.
Your rules are perfect for my car, but E-town is waaaaay too far to travel. Maybe you could just send Johnny back to Houston to do a feature on it <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Well, that knocks me out! I might be willing to go through the expense and hassle of getting it down to 94 db just for the challenge of running quiet NA 9s but oh well, EVERY SINGLE VEHICLE I OWN IS COMPANY INSURED!
...Whoever said they're "technically not my cars if they're company insured" has no clue. I make the payments and they're all titled to ME or MY company. What a bullshit rule. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />
And no, not everywhere in the country do you have to have insurance to drive. Come to Alabama and get in a wreck with an old cluncker. %90 chance they don't have insurance. How do they get a tag? Because they don't ask for proof of insurance when you get a tag here. It's not fair but that's the reality of it.

I'll ask again, who has insurance that covers racing?
If you do, tell me who sells it and how much do you pay?

Re: GMHTP is doing another shootout and looking for LS1s
mattf2...what does insurance for a track have to do with it? I don't follow your reasoning. The idea behind the insurance rule is to try and keep the race cars out.
Stephen - your car is awesome, but it is a race car, right? Again, I think GMHTP's shootout is pointed towards - using their words, "strictly for street cars."
Tony...its a once a year thing - make the trek. These sorts of thing are a blast. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
I can vouch for how E-town is strict about the noise. We had several cars last year at a Modular shootout that had to be shut down. Sucked, but is life.

I would make the trip. I mean who cares about all the restrictions. I know that In Dallas, I could get away with driving my car open header for a bit, and I know guys that do not even bother putting catbacks on. In Indiana, I have to cap the borla or it just draws too much attention.
This shoot out was not meant for the race cars. Some people may have cars that still have interior, but unless you can take it out to a GTG, and then drive it home with out your fillings being rattled out, I dont think that Jim and Johnny want it.
Just my .02

Bob,
Thanks for clarifying. I thought that maybe the mag needed to make sure we had some kind of insurance at the track for liability reasons.

Guys... rules are rules.
If you can't fit their rules then don't worry about it, I'm sure they will have plenty of cars to choose from.
If you want to be in a magazine (shootout) you have to take the opportunities as they come along.

Re: GMHTP is doing another shootout and looking for LS1s
I think the rules are cool. Its good to see restrictions like that. I'd almost be tempted to say the cars should have to have cats on them and have to run drag radials too, but hey, its not my shootout <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
