Default I want to paint my sail panel at home

I want to paint my sail panel black at home in my garage. I was looking at the duplicolor paintshop cans at an autoparts store and I was wondering.. Can i scuff up the paint with like 800 grit wet sand paper on my sail panel and spray the new color right over it or do i have to do a primer first?

Yes you can paint without priming, unless your clear is pealing or need repairing.800 wet is fine then scuff with a red scotch brite till their is no shine left make sure you get the edges good(use a grey scotch brite if your puting metallic color on it) mask it with tape n paper n plastic the whole car then paint.
