Default Best way to Remove Paint: RK Sport Grille

Have an RK sport grill that is blue and in rough shape. Want to strip it down and repaint it.

Whats the best method/product to strip the paint off this?

Just sand?

Stripper?

Dont want to f up the plastic, any advice appreciated.

Look into soda blasting maybe? Won't attack the plastic at all.

There is spray on aircraft stripper for plastic bumpers at auto parts stores.
Also anything that eats paint & comes in a plastic bottle, ie, a soaking in brake fluid.

Brake fluid eats paint.. But its also an oil so I would'nt do that because then the paint wont stick.

Brake fluid will wash off.

But honestly it 's an old school method & soaking is a pain for larger parts.

My 3 choices from a spray can would be aircraft for plastic bumpers, SEM plastic bumper stripper, OR lift away graffiti remover from the home stores. The correct products are labeled safe for plastics.

This is a plastic bumper(originally black) that I first started sanding, then used aircraft stripper for plastics on the areas to be welded on.

Just sand it. depending how bad it is, you should use 180 or 220, and then use a nice 2 part primer, then 320, then 400 wet and then you can paint it.

and anyone thats done this on a part thats something like a grille has too much time on their hands
soda or plastic media blast is my first choice, next would be the plastic bumper stripper with a pressure washer.
Be sure and tie it to a sheet of plywood or youll be chasing it around the driveway.

Haha. Picked up some aircraft stripper. Is working okay so far. Just time consuming. I'll try to get pics up by the end of the weekend.
