Default Problems with 1998 PCM tuning?

i was talking to a couple guys who tune and they suggest i should upgrade to a 2002 PCM. then i read that HPTuners has an OS that can be written onto my 98 PCM to allow more user friendly tuning capabilities. can anyone further explain this? also if i did chose to go to a 2002 PCM is it just as easy as a plug and play or would i need to heavily modify the wiring to work with it? I own the HPTuners program and have been using it quite often but still have alot to learn.

Default

98 to 99+ pcm is not plug & play, wiring harness needs to be repinned, segments swapped in the operating system, etc.
