Default Slow tach?

Today I hit the rev limiter in 2nd at what appeared to be around 5800ish on the tach. I thought the limiter was at 6200 or so - this was the first time that I have actually hit the limiter while looking at the tach.

I was wondering if the tach (stock) has a slightly slow response when the RPMs are increasing rapidly (such as during a 1st or 2nd gear pull). I typically shift more by sound/feel than by staring at the tach as it allows me to keep my eyes out the window but today it was like 7am on a Sunday so there were no other cars around to worry about so I was watching it and noticed the slow response.

I don't think there could be a failure such that the rev limiter would kick in early so its got to be the tach, right?

Yes, the tach is slow. Your rev limiter is 6200 rpm stock, and you are hitting it when the tach shows 5800 rpm.

When hitting my stock 6200 rpm rev limiter, the tach is at:

5800 in first gear.
6000 in second gear.
6200 in third gear.
