Question What type of tune?

My local tuner said that with my mods he can go in on his laptop (hp tuners) and change some stuff without putting my car on the dyno. He said it is just like a mail order tune. He already has tuned out the rear 02's, egr, and air.

Should I spend the extra money to put it on the dyno to see a before and after? When it comes to tunning I am clueless. Any input would be great.

Thanks.

Measuring before and after on the track and on the dyno will give you a quantified answer to your choice of mods and the tuner's ability.

I say if you can swing the extra cost, throw it on the dyno. Sometimes mail order tunes are hit or miss. With a dyno you'll know. Plus, like Doc said, you'll find out the tuners ability. To know wether to stick with him in the future or not.

How much is bolt on tune? Dyno tune runs about 225 here as opposed 175 from a laptop...dynotune will always be better but a good tuner can get a nice gain w/ a laptop.

The dyno tune is around 250$ or so. I know the tuner does very good work. I figured from his ability I could get a gain. I was just wondering what type of numbers my car will be putting down before the tune and after. I guess I will just have to use the SOTP haha.

What can he change with the laptop? (hp tuners) Any guess what numbers my car will be putting down with my mods (sig) after the laptop tune?

Thanks again.

If all systems are working properly you stand to gain 20-25 rwhp. Besides the tune, your tuner should check to make sure your car is ready to be tuned. Any exhaust leak, or other non-tuning parameter could throw things off significantly-these things can get easily overlooked but, often get blamed on the tune or tuners ability.

Thanks doc.

I think I will shell out the extra cash to use the dyno.
