Default first startup of LS2 402 on stock 98 tune?

Is it even possible for the motor to fire on a stock 98 tune? Is it a bad idea?

Just finished installing my LS2 and am anxious to get this thing started up. There arent any local tuners here, so I have to send my pcm off. But before I pack it up and send it, can I fire the motor?

It's a LS2 with custom grind cam and ported heads.

sorry about the noob question...my car has been down for a few years and I'm just getting back into this.

Not a good idea.

If there's no tuners around I would suggest buying one of the fine tuning software out there and tune it yourself. IMHO, a mail order tune for a new engine is a waste of money. There are just too many variables that can be off.

If you didn't change injectors from what you had before, starting it won't hurt anything. You might even be able to get it to warm up to where it will run in closed loop. What will hurt it is going WOT. Do that and start looking for a good machine shop to fix it.

If you are running the stock injectors and mass air meter you can run it.It probly won't idle but you can throttle it.

thanks for the answers guys.

Yeah, the stock injectors and stock maf are on there; even the stock manifold. Ran out of money once my baby girl was born.

I'm off to the stealership for knock sensors and IAT sensor, will start it up tomorow.

thanks again.

Don't forget to open up the throttle with a turn on the throttle stop. That 402 will need much more air to idle. And for gods sake resist the temptation to drive it.

LOL...don't worry, it's still sitting on jackstands. Matter of fact haven't even started it yet, having a hard time tracking down Valvoline NSL racing oil.
