How important is it to fix my BCM?

My car has been showing the Security light for a while now. The car runs fine and everything works fine. Will something eventually happen if I don't fix the BCM, other than having to look at the Security light?

Possibly it could turn into a no crank senerio.
If that light is on there is a problem with the VTD system (vehicle theft deterent)
