What are some tell tale signs of a dying alternator?

Usually it will just short out and not charge the battery at all. Battery gauge will show low voltage because the alternator isn't recharging it, and eventually once the battery is drained the car will die since all accessories and PCM are running off the battery.

Yeh, turns out it's a coil pack or spark wire issue.. Found arcing at the coil pack today when AutoZone was checking the alternator for me..
