Exclamation Manual to Auto?

Hi All,

I see several threads on auto to manual, but nothing for the other direction...

A bud has a "built" '10 Camaro (441" LSX) with the factory 6-speed and wants to convert to a 4L80 and the TCI controller. What all is involved with the PCM? Would it be necessary to swap to an auto PCM or just write code to the current one? How hard would it be to re-fit a factory auto harness instead of using the TCI controller?

TIA!

Pin all the Auto Stuff and tune it for an Auto.

So, what would be involved in using the TCI box with the manual-shift PCM? Can it all be written out, or are there inputs from the manual setup that are needed for engine functions?

You can use the stock LS PCM to control the 4L80E, no need for the TCI box. Wire the PCM for a 4L80E, then send the tune in to HP Tuners to get a segment swap.

Are you using HP Tuners?

I don't know who did this guy's tune. He wants to use the TCI box, not factory-controlled...

Ok, then back to the original question. We're just trying to find out what needs to be done, if it can be accomplished strictly by editing the manual trans PCM or if that will cause engine or drivablilty problems due to lack of inputs...

The rear Speed Sensor on the 4L80E will be the one to use for the Speedo. I believe it's still 40X..but count it out to be sure. VSS and TPS I'm sure are needed for that box.

you have to have an exact same OS # with a 4l80 segment to be able to swap it..
I dont know off hand if any vehicles have the same OS# and a 4l80 in it or not..

otherwise, your only option would be to use the TCI controller...
I use one, it works dam well

all you need is to get RPM from the stock PCM over to the TCI controller, GM usually has an output that puts out a standard tach style signal that any aftermarket device can use
and then split off of the TPS sensor's signal wire to get TPS to the TCI unit.

the VSS will also need to be split...both wires to the stock pcm and the TCI controller
on a 4l80 there can be 2 vss sensors...you need the rear one(both use the same sensor, but the front one is input shaft speed, and you need output shaft speed...rear sensor)

the 4l80 uses a 40 tooth reluctor
I dont know how many teeth the 6speed uses..
6speed auto? or manual?
I thought all the t56's all use a 17 tooth reluctor and the A6's use the 40(I think)
so you may need to change your tune to reflect the new vss if its a swap from a manual.

then its pretty much plug and play...Trans takes care of itself, no input needs to go back to the pcm from the trans...

and turn off various codes that pop up from missing trans stuff...

you will need to wire up the neutral safety switch, and brake switch and reverse lights...
depending on what shifter you use, it may be packaged with, or a separate piece that bolts on.

I use the TCI outlaw shifter with my transmission(TCI 6x) and it uses 2 micro switches to do Neutral/safety and reverse lights

there will some some basic wiring BS that you will have to tackle as you get to it...but its all stuff you can ask about as you go and do simple searches on here for answers..(neutral safety and reverse are good examples .....)

T56 is a 17. Operating Systems are pretty easy to find..just pull tunes out of vehicles of that year. I had to convert a 2001 5.3l from a 4L60E to a 4L80E, I sent in the one out of my 2001 2500HD to help.

unfortunately... its just not simple...

and its not the same idea as theres more stuff to deal with on the 2010...
lots of integrated BS to deal with..
in a 2001, its a simple hack and slash and it works
in a 2010, its delicate surgery to make it all still work right...
multiple pieces talk to one another...
even the manual trans has a tcm to talk to... kind of pointless... but its there and the pcm still communicates with it..

it would actually probably be easier to swap him from a 2010 t56 to a 2010 6l80
easy to get the few parts you need, and you can get a built 6l80 to hold up to quite a bit of punishment... not as much punishment as a 4l80... but it will get you a long ways(ask the fastest corvette with a 6l80...I'm honestly pretty impressed with how fast he goes in the 1/4 mile on a 6l80)
