Default Headers Installed - ? - Codes.

Hi All,

New to this forum but been around the boards for years. I need some help.

Just finished installing the PPC headers on my car. Had a few issues, i.e.
the 02 sensor wires were too close to the headers and burned. That sent
codes like crazy. Ended up curing that with heat wrap and a new fuse.

Now - I have code - P0118 - coolant temperature sensor. I replaced the
sensor with a new one. That solved the problem for a couple days. It's back
again. Also, the idle is very rough and varies between 900 - 1200 RPM. and
the car is surging. At times it runs up to 3500 RPM on it's own, I can be
in gear or at idle and it will rev up on it's own. It feels like it bogs off the
line, and is not making the kind of power that an LS1 should. I cleared the codes last night and it came back 4 times in an 8 mile drive. I'll add that it
seems to be runnning rich now.

The car has about 14,000 miles on it - and has the usual bolt ons. Hypertech
and 4:10's. Granatelli MAF. I changed the plugs with the header install.

Anyone else have this problem before? Any suggestions for a power tuning
shop in the Detroit - Windsor area?

Thanks.

If the coolant temperature sensor is the one on the drivers side by the front header primary then that may still be responsible for your car running bad. I left that disconnected and my car started really rough. I didn't like the way it idle so I shut it off. I was unable to start the car after that until I plugged it back in b/c I had fouled all of the plugs while trying to start it while it was unplugged. I would check that again and also see if you can log using A-tap what your front O2's are measuring. If you messed up the O2 wire then you may need to replace that as well.

thanks for the reply. Here's an update. Unplugged the sensor, then plugged it in
again. Checked all the wires for any damages. Re-routed the 02 sensor wires and
wrapped more insulation around them. Now, driven 200 miles with no problems at
all. I have an appointment booked with Livernois Motor Sports for tuning, that should
tell me what's going on.

Before you bring the car in to me for tuning, please check and see if you still have your stock MAF handy. Allowing the PCM to have an accurate read of exactly how much air is going into the engine will make everything work much better. Trust me, the stock MAF will not hold you back on power at all at this level. This should help everything go much quicker and smoother with the calibration process.
