Default 2009 Chevy 1500 bricked ECM

Long story short I swapped a 4.8 and a turbo system in the place of my 6.0 l76. Went to start tuning and I could not get the VVT codes to go away. I decided to flash an 08 4.8 tune file into my ECM to get rid of all the AFM and VVT stuff and apparently it does not work that way with the E38 ECM, It is now locked up and garbage. This is my first time playing with a gen iv computer. I've successfully tuned 5-6 turbo setups on gen iii ECM's with no issues but this is much more confusing.

I have been talking to hptuners and they said to get an ecm and have someone with a tech 2 program my vin into it and the engine file I want. My question is when I go to buy a used replacement ECM what should I buy? An 08 4.8? Or one like my original 09 6.0? and also when I get it programmed do I go back to my 6.0 file or the 4.8?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You need a 09 ECM just like you had, needs to have same hardware and service number. I don't have any E38 ECM's in stock currently though. Call Speartech (they sponsor on here also) and see if they have any. I have bought several new E38's from them, they are great to deal with.

Thanks for the reply. Thats what I was leaning towards from my research. I found an ecm last night and I am going to have a buddy that has access to a tech 2 flash it today. Hopefully I don't mess it up this time.

You need to be very carefully when flashing Gen4 controllers including ECM and TCM. You can brick them if you flash a different year OS to them, sometimes even flashing a file from same year but different OS can brick them.
Hell, even dealer tools can brick them
