EGR Removal and Timing Changes

EGR Removal and Timing Changes
Hey everybody, I just installed my new LS6 intake and did the LS6 PCV conversion to my 2000 Trans Am this past weekend. Other than breaking the oil pressure sending unit and cutting up my hands reaching under the cowl, it went ok.
One thing I did was remove the EGR, since the new intake was the standard LS6 and not the modified SLP version. I did get the code, which I expected. So, reading some of the posts, I guess the EGR can be eliminated from the computer. How can this be done? I know that LS1Edit can do it, but I don't have it and if I understand how it works, the license is VIN specific.
Also, there are some conflicting arguements that the timing will need to be adjusted after the EGR is removed. I have noticed that the idle is slightly higher when coming to a stop, but it does go down to normal after a few seconds. It's only about 200 rpms higher anyways.
Anybody have any ideas on fixing this? Living in Houston, I know that Jayson and the boys at MTI can fix me up, but $500 for a tune? I'd rather wait until putting in a cam and then feeling justified spending that much money. Thanks!
Brian

If you don't need a dyno tune, and just need some codes changed, you should be able to find someone to do it for a lot less than $500. You should be looking at closer to $50-$100.
Best of luck. Try posting in the regional forumn and see if someone has an HP tuner for your year and offer them a couple bucks to change the neccesary codes. HP tuner is good for unlimited cars of the same model, same year, i.e. all 1999 F-bodies.

Yeah, I think $75 is a little high to do 10 minutes worth of work, but I guess they have the justification of the expense of an unlimited license to the software/hardware. I would figure $25 would have been great, $50 would have been middle ground.
At least it's done, now you have no worries.

LOL! I hear you. It's amazes me the prices shops are asking to make such small changes to the PCM. I realize they are in the business to make money and have every right to charge what they want, but give me a break. A local shop by me wants $100 to change the on/off temp settings for my fans. No thanks.
