Default Lean Popping??

I drove my car this morning, 14° outside, and until it got to the 1/4 mark it kept popping and back firing, I let it warm up a good 5-10 min. before I ever headed out. After the motor got above the 1/4 (temp) it quit doing it. It usually does this when it's cold outside. I know it's running rich, but the auto-teacher says he thinks it's a lean condition since it's cold outside. what do you all think? How do I correct this? BTW the car is STILL not tuned, Should I log this and see what it's doing?

It it only popping when you let off the gass or all the time. It does sound like its starving for fuel if its all the time. First and cheapest place to start is the fuel filter.

It only does it when it's cold and when I give it gas, usually around 3rd-4th gear, again this is after I let it warm up a bit.

Cold air makes for a leaner mix just as your teacher said.

From all I've seen/read, the fix described in that thread should help you!

The solution isn't always tuning. Again, with the added need for fuel in the cold its possible that your running into a restriction such as the fuel filter.
