Default car not staying on.. key/ignition switch issue?

alright, i hope this is the right section to post this problem. in a nuttshell after i start the car the car shuts off within a few seconds. i scanned for codes with obdII and no codes were present. i suspect the chip on the key may be damaged (i only have one key as of now) or something with the ignition switch may be damaged. i plan on going tommorow to get another key made and seeing what happnes.. any ideas??
