narrow band 02's
Ive been thinking and reading on narrow band 02's.
I know they arent accurate but at 14.7 afr GM choose to use them as a reference for commanded AFR, and the system of checks and balances obviously wouldnt be needed if stoich afr was always present. So my question is why would they do that. Are they accurate as a starting point, simply telling you whether you are on the richer or leaner side of 14.7

You are right. They tell you if you are rich or lean by continually moving up and down in a nervous sine wave pattern searching for the right setting. They do react fast.
I was trying to tune a big cam motor by logging the O2s. Thought that I was seeing some patterns to tune with. I installed a wideband today and WOW, the O2s were leading me in the wrong direction. The were all over the place. The wideband is very clear and when the O2s are lean, the trims are rich, the wideband is on 14.7. Everybody is doing their job.
