What does this wire do?
Well i re-did the engine and now it wont start, all is hooked up except the little red wire that hooks to the top of the alternator, it has a 4 port connector but only 1 pin is used what does this do? And also my gauges dont seem to work either.

I would support that wire to prevent vibration breaks later on down the road.

That's strange. I disconnected mine and tried to start the car, but would just spin over with no desire to fire off. Once I reconnected it, she fired off immediately. My car is an 01 SS though. Maybe there's a difference between the different year models.

I just got done installing a '98 LS1 in my GTA and it's running but the alternator isn't charging. I also have the 1 wire connector (1 wire). Right now it's hooked up to my 3rd gen wire to feed my gage in the dash. Does this need to be hooked back up to the stock LS1 harness? Should it have 12V with key on or what??
thanks!

L terminal wire
This is how it is on 99+. I could not find it used on the 98 PCM pinout diagram. Do not connect L directly to + 12 volts- you can burn out the regulator. Anyone with 98 info?
