Necessary programming after 2.73 to 3.42 swap?
Also posted in Gears/Auto trans forums...
Does anyone know exactly what programming is needed following a gear swap? I've done a search with mixed messages...
I recently did a 2.73 to 3.42 rearend swap on my 00 Z28 (stock tire height and 4L60E) and am getting an SES light, but not an ABS inop like some others do after a gear swap.
A friend of mine has HPTuners and has helped calibrate my speedo, but from what I've been reading I need further recalibration for the shift points
(up and down shifts), shift firmness, and whatever else is causing the SES light after the swap.
Anybody know?

yeah, when you change the gear ratio it changes the mph the car will shift at. you need to go here
http://www.f-body.org/gears/
that will give you new speeds for your given shift point, just compair old to new.

HPT should compensate the difference automatically (unless your friend turned that option off)
You can't use the above link to determine shift points because you're an auto and the torque converter throws the shifts off
Your best bet is to either let HPT recalculate the shift points for you or to just set the WOT shift points by RPM (200RPM below where you want the shift to actually occur works)
for part throttle the HPT scale should be fine...

Thanks for the replies guys.
I'll have my friend look at the above replies and compare what he did when programming my car.
I remember him saying he didn't want to mess with the shift points as he drives an MN6 car and is unfamiliar with A4 tuning requirements. But the above should definitely help.
