Default PCM compatability

Are PCMs vehicle and year specific?

For example if I want to replace my 2002 Corvette Z06 PCM do I have to use a PCM from another 2002 Z06 or can I reprogram a PCM from another Corvette or F body to work?

I'm going to be moving and I want to be able to send a PCM to my tuner for reprogramming while I keep another in the car to allow me to drive it. My tuner uses EFI Live for programming if that is pertinent.

Thanks,

Mike

a 99-02 PCM is essentially the same hardware... F-Body, Y-Body, Truck ... so long as it's a V8 (may be some differences here or there though... I blieve it's 4.8,5.3 and 6.0 L trucks)

you can reflash to run any OS supported in those years (2003 may be hte same too but I'm not 100% sure)

Would there be any advantage of flashing an 02 F body PCM to a later date? As in better fuel calculations or maybe newer code could take more advantage of the faster clock in the 02+ PCM????

The factory pcms are well within the range for Calculations to be handled fine. 100 Cpu load is well above 8500 rpm on a newer pcm.. Some are over 9500..
