Default trex / big cam guys, how much timing?

How much peak timing do you big cam, stock head guys look for under WOT? I haven't been on a dyno to truly see, but I am not noticing any real difference between 24 degrees and 29 degrees. If the power should be fairly close, I could run my 200 shot tune full time. ;-)

the tuner isn't looking for a certain timing number, the engine is. The tuner just reads the needs of the engine by its responses.

If you have tested this 24 vs 29* thoroughly and you want to be safe, then use the 29* at the lower RPM's up to your shift recovery RPM, and then the 24* value from recovery on up.
This all depends on what type of transmission you have though.

It is an m6 car...

I guess my question is should I expect pretty similar power numbers from 24 and 29 degrees? Knock doesn't seem to be any issue at all, I've had it all the way up to 31 degrees and never had a single tick.

Don't "expect" anything. Test it and find out.
Scanning during actual test runs on the track or street is the best way.
You'll need to scan the PCM to verify conditions, measure performance with a g-meter of some sort or track timers, and preferably use a wideband to monitor the actual AFR.

My car with ported heads makes NO DIFFERENCE in power whatsoever between 23.5 degress WOT or 28 degrees. Just verified on MTIs dyno. If you are going to spray it stay low, if not set about 26 and call it good. On my car Id rather run slightly leaner with less timing. That definitely does make a little difference in power....

On my 2001 ZO6 with stock heads, 234/228 cam the timing peaks at 26.2*
@3200 rpm, then tapers down to 24* @4800 rpm.

I felt a difference when I upped my timing with the T-ReX from 24* to 30*.
