Default Whats the difference?

Sorry if this is a repost...

But why is it when I am looking at hand held programmers some say they will only work on the 99-02s but not the 98? Whats the difference between the 98 and the later years?

Well 98's small blocks are basically GenI engines and the 99-later (with a few exceptions) small blocks are GenIII/IV engines. They are completely different engines.

But then there are some of the engines, (V-6's, big blocks, diesels, OBS/Van/Commercial vehicles, exports, etc.) that prove that there are the exceptions every rule.

Edit: I was thinking trucks when I wrote this. (At my height and size, I don't do cars). The earlier fbodies and vettes used a different computer.

98's use a different computer...basically the same engines from 97-04 in fbodies & vettes...just in 97-98 they used different computers & wiring harnesses.
