Default best way to read rpm's on LM-1

What is the best way to get the rpm reading to the rpm converter on my LM-1? An inductive clamp seems like the easiest way, but based on my experiences with timing lights in the past (getting good signal) and worries about the clamp sliding down onto my headers, is this the best way? If not, what do you guys recommend and how do you do it?

Thanks for the help.

I just bought a kit too. I was planning (when I finally get around to it) on hooking it up as if it were an aftermarket tach. From what I understand, it's just a matter of tapping into the signal wire. Hopefully, a few who have installed tachs can chime in.
