Default non LS1 check engine light

I though there was a non LS1 car section but couldn't find it. So sorry if this doesn't belong here.

My mom drives a 2003 Toyota Matrix and the check engine light just came on. I want her to take it to AutoZone to find out what code it is throwing. I was wondering if there is any way for me to find out what the code meant without having to pay a dealer. I found this site http://autorepair.about.com/cs/troub...l_obd_main.htm but am not sure if it is what I want.

Thanks for any help.

Have Autozone pull the code and post it here. All OBD2 codes are the same regardless of make or model. I'm sure someone will be able to give an idea of at least where to look. First things first though...Make sure the gas cap is tight.

Take it to a shop, autozone makes a killing selling parts you don't need. It takes more than a code to fix it. Especially jap cars they are good but sometimes that computer and diagnosis strategies are a PITA.

I work at a Toyota dealership, get that DTC (from autozone or whoever) and pm me or e-mail me at xxx. I'll see what kind of info I can get for you...
