Default 5.3 cuts out at 1800

I put a 2006 5.3 in my 66 chevelle.Had the pcm reprogrammed. The thing starts and idles fine but won't rev over 1800 r's.Almost like a rev limiter. The programer says the pcm is set at 5800.Any ideas?

There are many possibilities, but my first guess would be the bad VSS limiter. I'm assuming you probably don't have a functional vehicle speed sensor from the trans? Also, the computers have separate rev limiters for each gear, park/neutral, and bad vss.

I was thinking the way it cuts out and goes back to idle that it could be some sort of limiter.I'm using my old 700R4 trans so none of the tranny wiring is hooked up.I thought the gut disabled the speed sensors, but maybe not.I've got to get a list of what he said he did.Seems like the 2006 pcm is a little different than the ones I've read about in here. The programmer had some trouble to.

If you are attempting this with only a handheld programmer, you may as well save us all the trouble and kill yourself now. You will absolutely require a full tuning suite such as HPtuners or EFIlive to get anywhere on this project. Of course you could go carbeurated with an msd timing computer, but then, what is the point?

No,I sent my pcm to someone who had an ad on the i-net for what I need.He said "no problem".He found out his so???are wasn't up to date for the 2006 suburban pcm so he got an update from the company. Now it's running but I have the symptom I mentioned.I was hoping someone else may have had the same problem or some ideas topass on to him. Thanks
