Default ia a 99-02 PCm better than a 98 and is so why

My junkyard conversion package ended up having a 99/00 LS1/4L60e with a T56 harness and a 98 PCM. Well I have wired up the harness for the 4L60e but have not changed the PCM pin locations for the 98 PCM. Figured this out after everything was wired and went to power stuff up and my coil packs were buzzing (hope I didn't fry them). But either way, I figure I can change pin locations on the plugs to fit the 98 PCM or fork out a 100 bucks or so (might be needed for fried components though) for 99up PCM.

So why is a 98 PCM not as good as a 99-02? Anyone?

Oh ya, and if something like this (wrong PCM/buzzing coils) has happened in the past, is there typically components that were damaged?

Buy the 99+ pcm. it's way worth the $100 to not have to repin the harness.

(I repined my 98 car to a 99+ pcm to test some of the custom operating systems out there

Repinning is easy, it could be done is a half hour or so. But was just wondering if there is a difference between the PCM's beside pin locations. Its just that I don't even know if the 98 I have is for an Auto or not either.

I already ordered 01-02 PCM, guys gonna remove VATs for me and do a couple more things. PCM for under a hundred, mods for 50 bucks.

yes, the 98 pcm uses a 1/2 mb non segmented flash, and the newer stuff is a segmented flash, so you can swap segments, for changes like running a 4l80e vs a 4L60e, or running a old gauge cluster, with a new pcm (98 fuel gauge to 99 pcm0
