Default ls1edit

I just got a brand new laptop from Dell, actually it's refurbished. It doesn't have a serial port on the back just usb's. Well I bought a usb to serial port adapter and it works just fine with autotap but as soon as I hook up ls1edit it just trys to connect but I get no connection to my PCM. I know the ls1edit cable is okay because it worked with a different computer just fine. Has anyone had this problem before and if so what did you do to fix it? Thanks for your help in advance.

Try a Keystone serial port adapter; many of the other don't work well. I've heard the Belkin is one of the worst ones.

I don't meant o scare you... but take precautions when programming with a USB Serial port...

It may just be belkin sux but I was using a USB serial port, it lost connectivity with the cable and I had to get my PCM reflashed by a dealership...

so I'd suggest only programming the car while at home or buy a spare PCM (valvegod has them) and have the dealership flash it... and carry it around w/you if you plan to do any programming

Forget about USB to serial port adapters. Get a PCMCIA serial card for your laptop. Difference is a USB-to-serial is an emulator and the PCMCIA IS a serial port. Look on E-bay.
