Interesting car...
If it's legit....I don't know. I see the X in the VIN. Assuming the VIN is real....too bad about the T-tops. It's a gorgeous colour (not like the "me too blacks" ha)

Wow, that's very interesting... Hmmm...
The right hand tail-light is a little off in color.. red hue?
A lot of the colors for the parts are close, but not quite there to the colors I normally see on the 4 1/2 generation Fbodies.
Also seems that there was once another sticker behind that x28f 042 sticker.
What is the thing to the left of the AC accumulator?

That car has been listed and discussed before. GM mule that should've been destroyed, slipped throught the cracks, but can't be licensed or insured for the road since it doesn't have all the mandatory safety devices or GM certs that are required to be licensed. It'd be a cool museum piece, or parts car.
IIRC, this car was originally black, but was repainted in a shop-class.
That's the ASR control servo.

for a factory experimental car the vin code would be X first not last , and it wouldn't have a standard vin tag , just a blank tag with the x then 000 and number of the chassis , also there would be several stickers on the car to sign it out on the radiator support , if you seen a Gm design mule in person or in print you know what I am talking about . also one would need the certificate of origination ( cars birth certificate ) to own it otherwise its still Gm property and the later years it was impossible to get mules out of the plant they destroyed them in plant instead of sending them to the scrap yards for disposal. and I only see one test part sticker on it thats the air box lid

According to http://www.compnine.com/vid.php , it's a 96 with an LT1. The VIN comes up good.
Me thinks somebody had a wrecked 98 car (as the LS1 engine has perimeter bolt valve covers) and swapped the drivetrain and nose.
Johnny is correct, it was black.
And all the exhaust system rust?
It is a gorgeous color, eh?

These guys did a lot of work to do this. Even the fuel lines were swapped from LT1 to LS1 style. I'd be interested to see the brakes. It has the LT1 master cylinder (no level sensor plug).
The interior looks to be very low mileage. No wear on the steering wheel radio buttons, console door sits straight and square, seats are mint.
It's a Canada car with the Kmh speedo.
Regardless, the VIN don't lie and I'm with stimpy on what the VIN should be on a pre-assembly test mule.
18 fools bid on it but it still hasn't hit the reserve.

Those rear car seat anchors did not start until 2000 if I remember right.
The wiring and fuse boxes under the hood look like they were just thrown in.
Do I see a Camaro air bag on the steering wheel?
Looks like it was wreacked and had parts swapped on it to me. IE: missing molding, bad body panal alignment, missintg/mismatched interior, etc.

Is it just me or is the clear coat peeling on the front bumper like where the bottom scoops are ?

You are right about the the seat anchors it was 2000+ and lmfao it is a camaro air bag! Interior is nice but hell you can find wrecked cars with no miles if you look good enough.

I used an online VIN decoder,it came back as a 96 with build date unknown.
Looks to be a base LT1 TA and a pre production car.

someone should call GM and inquire about this...it has so many random parts it could be a decent rebuild...or really a mule car.
my main question is...54 miles? why was the ENTIRE car resprayed (even the undercarriage)

A poster on the earlier thread about this car mentioned that he had attended a shop class where they had repainted what he thought was a LS1 firebird from black to BGC. He wasn't sure if it was this particular car, but its not unusual for mules to be used in schools for "practice" after they've served their purpose for GM.
I should also mention that there were several '96 and '97 Camaro mules that actually had the LS1 RPO code instead of LT1. GM was apparently test-fitting the drivetrains long before the first '98 production unit rolled off the line. Some of these were probably used for LS1 durability testing before it was introduced in the C5 in '97. Cheaper to build a f-bod.

I've got an old issue of Hot Rod that has one of the Camaro mules in it, a 1996 model I think. It was when they took a tour of the "secret" garage or whatever of GM's
