Gas Cap Leak
1998 LS1 - completely stock, original owner, 182,000 miles.
Help! I'm now on my third (in one year) OEM gas cap and still have same problem. With a full or nearly full tank and moderate to hard cornering, the gas cap leaks fuel - enough to run down the side of the car. The neck appears undamaged, but I notice fluid staining on the neck when I pull the surrounding boot. This neck is integral to the tank, but appears to have a plastic insert on the end that secures and seals the the cap. Could it be leaking between insert and neck? If yes, is it replaceable? Anyone else solve this problem before? Thanks!! I hate wasting even a thimble of fuel. Also, and this is a nit, the replacement OEM caps come with a tether that's several inches too short. Arrrghh!!!
