Default "Low Oil" Light is On ?

Hey Guys,

I have a 2002 Trans Am and had the Low Oil light come On the other day.
I noticed earlier that day that there was alittle smoke coming out of the tail pipe. When the light came On, I checked the oil level and it was to the top of the fill line on the dipstick. It's not low oil. I also, notice a loss of power. I installed a super chip the day before and was enjoying the power gains, but now I can the loss of power when hammering down. This was before the light came on. My buddy thinks, it could be the oil pump going out and just not getting the flow. I don't notice a oil pressure loss. Another thinks the oil sending unit... Need some feedback.. Why the little smoke from the tail pipe and loss of power? Any ideas or suggestions.

Thanks for your input..
