Getting into the GM game
Hey guys, looking for some friendly advice. I'm going to look at my possibly first Formula Firebird tomorrow, and I would like to know of what to be on the lookout for. I know that the optispark has been upgraded to an MSD setup. I'm coming from a 5.0 mustang so this in a bit of "Dark Side" for me, but I'm looking forward to a pleasant new ride. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I had a '96 Formula that was totaled in 2000. I then got a '98 Trans Am and was much happier with the LS1 engine vs the LT1 in the Fromy. Some folks would argue, but most would agree that the '98+ F-Bodies would be the better choice. They only cost a bit more these days, and there are a good bit more parts and mods available for the newer motor. Good luck with your purchase and welcome to the Dark Side, we have cookies!

Oh I understand the LS is much more potent. This is honestly just for a pleasant daily driver that I can put exhaust and wheels on for the time being and drive/enjoy. My '95 mustang( gasp!!!), is my toy. It is currently undergoing an engine build and I'm looking for something to drive and enjoy as I have a thing against boring/complacent vehicles.

Welcome!
Just go over it the same you would any other car, listen for weird noises and clunks.
Give us some more stats on the Formula... mileage, auto or std etc...
You will either love or hate the LT1, they are great motors that make good power, and great torque, but be careful they are pretty hated around these parts lol hence the name, LS1tech.
Enjoy the car, and take some pics to let us see what you get!

Well as far as I know, it is essentially a 1 owner Formula, with 130,000 miles. It is a 6 speed car, with new clutch, flywheel, MSD ignition setup. Otherwise all stock. It is a rather odd color though, if I had to say. It is almost a maroon metallic color. It is supposedly spotless and is extremely well maintained. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited. I know it isnt the almighty LS1, however I know that with good care an LT1 can be reliable and quick.

I believe the color is medium patriot red metallic. My old 1994 Z-28 was that color.
