Default turn signal indicator does not return

Just making sure i have ir correct. This is a common problem on many GM cars. It is the plastic switch whith runs thru the colum the part is one piece and expensive & the humpty dumpty column needs to come apart? I hope I am wrong?

Not very expensive, but can be difficult to replace. Yes, the column has to come partway apart. There is a write-up on here somewhere.
