I believe the first production of the 98s began in August 97. There were some preproduction cars that were made earlier though (like the rare 98 TA with no t-roofs and cloth seats that was in Car and Driver back then)

My 2000 was built in July of 1999. It was the 1,711 car built for the 2000 model year, so it had to be late June/early July '99 when they started. With the '98 model year being the first year for the LS1 changeover, I could see them not starting production until August of 1997.

My Formula was built on Sept 12th, 1997... it was probably on the assembly line with your car, 98BPMTA.

My Trans Am, though.. it was originally sold in February of '98, but I don't know when it was built.

I saw someone with a 97 z28 and it had a build date of 8/97, so it must've been around late August?

How did you find out which day your car was finished and which number it was?

The month/year is on the RPO sticker that's on your driver's door. The factory build number is the last six digits of you VIN starting with 100,001.

My 98's production number is 1536, so it is a pretty early one. In fact it has the LT1 seats and the blue tinted side mirrors.

My 02 is very late in production. Based on the production numbers, I know that only a little over 800 F-bodies were built after my 02 NHRA.

I still don't know why they stopped using the blue tinted mirrors.
********. All I know is they were hard as hell to get back then.

Mine was built in August '97, #3778 off the line.

That being said, my blue mirrors are carried over from the LT1 days? What's with the LT1 seats as mentioned above?

Rumor also has it the early cars like mine had some C5 additions, like the cam, due to the F-Body production engines not ready for the line yet.

No one really knows. It could be a combination of both the Camaro/Firebird production, or individual sequences of both cars.

How do "LT1 seats" differ from "LS1 Seats". My '98s and my '99 both had the exact same interior.

The mirrors were not just a '98 item either. They kept the blue tinted side mirrors all the way through the '98 model year and into part of '99. My '99 Trans Am had blue tinted side mirrors and it was built in October of '98. Both of my '98s have them.
