Did I do the right thing by walking away?
im in the market for a 06 GTO. Yesterday i looked at an 06 blue on blue auto. as soon as i started it my uncle said he heard tick tick tick tick tick for a few seconds and then it stopped..we listened and listened, never heard it again. I even let it sit for 40 mins and tried again..it sounded fine. The colors were right and so was the price. The carFax shoed owner 2 had it for 7 months and sold it...immediately after seller, showed that the dealership replaced the oil pressure sending unit. I had the sales associate call the tech and see why it was changed. he said cause the oil light would not go off. I never did biy it. It had 52,2xx miles on it. Is this something normal or did I do the right thing? Because I really wanted that car. I hated to leave but my uncle was sure on what he heard. Maybe you guys can help and say if it had just been sittin awhile or if it sounded like the motor was hurt...well thnx guys for reading..

i think it might have been a good thing you walked away. Cause my buddy bought a 05 gto that was making the same sound and he thought it was normal and it ended up being a couble of his lifters were screwed up and somthing else cant remember but he said that it was so much more of a pain than it was worth.

You don't need a down payment and you don't have to buy from a dealer to get finacing. I've bought over 40 ls cars and never buy rom a dealer because you over pay, all you need is the vin number and you can pick any car you want as long as it will loan out. I'm asking $14.5k for mine but it loans out up to $16.5

Without hearing it it's hard to say. You might have had a little tick until a lifter pumped up. You might have had piston slap which some LS2s have been known to have without any consequences. In the end with a used car buying one even that's "perfect" is a gamble as anything can go wrong. One thing I will say is if you have to go skinny to buy this car I'd look at something else. Don't get me wrong I think it's a great car and I've had only one issue with a door lock actuator on mine in over the 8 years that I've owned it BUT they are expensive to repair, drive, insure and mod.

Blue on Blue auto was my first choice as well, I settled on QSM/black, and really love it. I know my car has lots of valve train noise on strat-up, but it all goes away after being warmed up.

I got my car at 59k miles. It now as 75k miles. I've just read over and over that the valvetrain is noisy for a lot of people on these cars, with no ill effect. I haven't really been too worried about it. I'm not sure if I have ticking or not, though.
