Default 2005 GTO Rear brakes dragging

We have a 2005 GTO purchased in January with 40,000 miles on it. A couple of months after buying it, I did front brakes, and noticed the rear brakes were worn thin.

Seemed odd, so I swapped out the pads at the same time.

Intermittently, it tugs after stopping, and the rear brakes sometimes squeal a little, as it takes off. There is also more brake dust on the rear than the front. I attributed this to cheaper brake pads.

Today, after a quick drive around the block, I checked the brakes with thermometer. Front 168/183 rear 396/375.

Any ideas where in the system the issue is?

Thanks

It could only be one or two things: either the parking brake shoes are dragging or the pistons in the rear calipers are sticking and you need to clean/rebuild them. Both jobs are easy to do and don't cost much money. Rockauto has everything or your local auto parts store probably has the parts too. When finished, do a complete flush of that old brake fluid.

Thanks for your reply.

When I did the pads, the pistons pushed back smoothly, and I find it hard to believe that both sides would stick, equally and simultaneously.

Since both rear brake lines are separate, all the way to the big abs module, I am wondering if the module itself may have a leaking solenoid or something that is lightly activating ABS and causing a drag? I was hoping someone may have experienced this.

We never use the parking brake, so I guess I need to look into that.

Thanks

The pads could be seizing up on the caliper bracket. Check to see if they are able to slide back and forth on the bracket. If they are hard to move, you can try cleaning the abutment clips and bracket with a wire brush or replace the clips...
