Default Reverse Lockout

Twice in the last 2 weeks I have had this issue.

The car will not idle correctly, hunts for idle hard to the point it will stall itself out. When this happens, the only way to keep the car running is maintain 1500RPM. During this condition my reverse is locked out. By locked out I do not mean won't engage reverse, I mean I cant even get the shifter past 6th gate, the gate is closed. If I am to kill battery power for a minute and restart the car, everything is fine and instant reverse gate opening.

My question is, I have looked at the schematics and see the dash cluster does have a say in the reverse lockout. Is there a chance somehow my PCM is being told the car is moving or some other false input? Where exactly should I start to look here? I do not know why I feel this way but I think it may be in my wiring behind the glove box...

Thanks for any and all help/input.

Check the auto trans fuse under the hood is good and not grounding or unseated. It controls the reverse lockout on manual cars.

Just wanted to give everyone an update. Seems by battery terminal was corroded and a little loose. After cleaning and tightening everything up I have not had an issue of being locked out of reverse since. Hopefully this may help someone in the future.

Will have to check in on that, my 00' camaro was having the same exact problems. Now I'm anxious to get home and look at the damn thing lol
