'99 trans am vs. '97 eclipse turbo

'99 trans am vs. '97 eclipse turbo While riding around downtown today, my friend spots this guy who graduated from my school a few years back who has a turbo eclipse. He is always saying how he's a "v8 killer and not scared of those big, heavy cars". i dont know the guy too well but i pull beside him and give a little rev. we stop at a light and i ask him if he wants to run; he kinda scoffs and agrees. we arent in a safe place so he follows me to an old highway close-by. we get beside each other at like 30 and he's says "im waitin on you", so i comply and punch it. i gain about half a car on him and we stay that way until about 70 then i start pullin him again and he's gone once i get about 110. i slow up and he catches me and says to me "man i missed third back there, lets go again". i agree and we go at it from about 40 this time and he loses worse than the time before. i pull into a parkin lot and start talkin to the guy. he asked what mods i have [all i have is a flowmaster muffler and free mods], then i asked about his mods. he's done a ton of mods to his....turbo, full apexi exhaust, blah blah blah....common import mods. i compliment him on his car b/c in all honesty his appearance mods are top of the line; guy has a real nice car. he, of course, compliments me on mine <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" /> and we part ways. i feel real good b/c i just beat supposedly the fastest import at our school. word will spread like wildfire around our school....this is my first real kill since i got my car a few weeks ago [im only 17]. oh and this seems like a good time to ask what mods i should do next. keep in mind im in high school, so cost is important. my cars an A4. and what gears do i have on my car? 3.23? thanks guys.

Re: '99 trans am vs. '97 eclipse turbo For an A4? Converter and Tranny cooler. The sponsoers on the site all have excellent products. Look at www.fbodycental.com they have some good product as well. Hughes Performance makes a pretty solid converter as well. Just be sure you do your research on the components of a converter to stay in line with what you evenyually want to do with your car. It could get expensive, but the big grin you get will more than make up for the cost.

As for mods, take care of the typical bolt-ons like lid, headers, ypipe, upgrade your converter and ditch the flowmaster (or add a cutout).

Re: '99 trans am vs. '97 eclipse turbo Good Kill! I have a 2000 Formula and a 96 Eagle Talon that I've had for awhile. Don't send any hate mail because mine has no stickers or wings or ground effects or any rice markings. I've put alot of $ under the hood though, including larger turbo. The Firebird still whoops the hell out of it though with only a few mods.
I'm sure for you that's the first of many ricer kills to come. Good luck!

Re: '99 trans am vs. '97 eclipse turbo All the mods listed above are damn good ones, especially the converter. Something else you might want to look into is subframe connectors and lower contol arms. You can pick them up pretty cheap and they make a very noticeable difference in how the car feels. My $.02

Re: '99 trans am vs. '97 eclipse turbo Do a search here. Do a search at the other LS1 board. Do a Google search. www.converter.com is Yank's web site. They have alot of info. The other LS1 board usually has a flame fantastic debate going on about converters. If you can get through the BS, you could get good information.What do you plan to do with the car eventually? Converter prices range anywhere from 350.00 up to 1200.00. Some are nothing more than restalled stock units while others (Hughes Performance) are 10/ 12" hybrids with tons of torque multiplication and 4500 stalls. Yank's site does a great job of explaining the particulars. I went with the SY3500 because I wanted a nice, high stall street converter that I could drive everyday and didn't melt my street tires everytime I got rowdy.

Re: '99 trans am vs. '97 eclipse turbo you didn't mention if it was a GST (front wheel drive) or if it was a GSX (all wheel drive) good kill either way ..if it was a GSX it would have been a better race from a stop.
Re: '99 trans am vs. '97 eclipse turbo Celestial, I remember 17 and I'd like to say I understand your budget issues...but at 17 I have a $200 Nova. On the cheap, a good upgrade ($250 all said) an ASP underdrive pully will give you a little something. I'd just wait till you have the cash and add a 100 shot Nitrous kit. Will end any rice races and put you into the solid 12's. A converter may be the best option but can also be costly to buy and install.
