Know by chance if it's a v6 or a v8? If it's a v8, it'd be a great car to buy, believe it or not. You can use the fact that it needs to be gutted and repainted as your leverage for lowballing him on the price of the car, he can't deny the fact that it's going to need to be repainted, and he can't deny that the interior is going to have to be gutted and returned to a more stock-ish appearance (or just gutted entirely for a track setup...). It's just going to sit there and rot until he gives in, so someone's going to get a Camaro (albiet an ugly one) for dirt cheap. Some work to the hood alignment, repainting the whole car and ground effects, rip the cloth off and possibly recover with vinyl/leather and you could have one nice car.
