Hit the 8's!

Made 3 passes. New best... 8.93 @ 153. Boost peaked at 25.8lbs. 22-23lbs through most of the run.... 15* of timing in the 24psi + range.

Went to make a final pass and the car died on the line. Did the burn out fine, hit the T-brake and made about 15lbs, and it shut off. Something locked up, not sure if its motor or trans/converter yet. Had to tow it home.

Oh well, had a great year this was the most fun I've had drag racing in a long time!

That is so cool. So the only mods to your engine are the cam and intake? What about head gaskets/studs?

OEM ls1 intake. (the 5.3 truck intake would work better if I had the room.)
ZR1/LS9 GM cam.
GM LS9 gaskets.

ARP head studs.

ZR1 or some call ti the LS9 GM cam.
GM LS9 gaskets.

And I do run ARP head studs.
Man that's awesome! Stock rod bolts?

I'm working on a stock bottom end 5.3l twin setup in a 54 Chevy pickup. It's got a LS7 cam in it just because I had it left over from a 67 Camaro LS7 project. With the LS7 cam I only had .060 piston to valve on the exhaust side so I had to cut a small valve pocket in the piston. Do you know what the p-v is with the LS9 cam?

Yes, all GM hardware on the rotating assy. I never bothered to check PTV clearance. I'm running dished pistons and the 317 (72cc) heads with a .56x lift cam.

Thanks.

Yes, pretty much anything that gives the motor more power NA will give it more power in boost. I believe it is around 5-8 hp on a "stock" setup. Not worth what people are selling them for these days IMO.

Bought it from a junkyard. That seems to be the term used to describe non-aftermarket high mileage stock blocks with all OEM hardware etc as well.

Oh that makes sense. I think some of the gen 4 5.3's are designated JY5 or something like that. I thought maybe that's what you meant.

I think the timing chain let go, pistons/rods were great. The ones that survived at least. The 2-step rev limiter hammers the crap out of the timing chain. I was using OEM old timing components with alot of slop in them. Stinks I really think I could have run this motor even harder.

Junked the Gen3 motor. Going with a $500 Gen4 alum block 5.3 this season. It's ready to drop in... Using a nice Cloyes roller aftermarket chain and damper this time around!

Oddly enough the new motor doesn't run much better (if any better) than the last.

This years motor...

10:1 VS last years 8.6:1 compression last year
212/212 @ 112 aftermarket cam VS the ZR1 cam last year
243 heads VS the 317 heads last year.

Same turbo maxed out at 25lbs trapped 155 this year VS last years best of 153.

This years block is roughly 80lbs lighter as well.
