Default bad rings or valve seals?

anyone know how to tell which one is bad?

i have a 350 w/ about 6k miles on it (but its ten years old) and i changed the plugs cuz it uses oil and smokes when idleing. some of the plugs where naaaaaasty. and i did a comp check and all cyl are between 155 and 165 w one at 170.

that to me says the rings are ok. this motor sat for a few years so im thinking maybe the valve seals are dried out. i just dont want to go through the trouble of doing the seals and find out its still smoking.

any thoughts?

I didn't know anyone knew what a leakdown test was anymore. LOL. could be a number of things to think about. Where did the engine come from? Was it new or rebuilt? Does the engine smoke all the time? If it does smoke all the time when does it smoke the worst when its first started or when it's being reved?

Most likely it is the seals and u can replace them w/out removing the heads.
