My Pump Gas 383 Gen I SBC Build
Hello Everyone,
Just thought Id share a bit on my 383 build. We finished and dynoed it last year but Im finally getting the car together.
This was a lot of parts we had laying around the shop that we swept together, and it made some great power! Compression wound up to be about 11.2:1
3970010 Block bored .030 Over
Eagle 3.75" Stroke Forged Crank
Manley H-Beam 5.7 Rods
SRP Flat Top Pistons
Bullet Solid Roller Cam
Duration @.050 .254/.260 Lift with 1.6 Rockers .613/.613
Crower HIPPO Solid Roller Lifters
AFR 210cc Competition Ported Heads
Edelbrock Super Victor Intake (Port Matched to the heads and slight clean up the the casting flash)
Scorpion 1.6 Rockers
Quickfuel Q-850
Milodon Extreme Oil Control Pan
We Dynoed it in June and the shop was about 95 Degrees.
The first run out we started with 32 Degrees of timing with 100 Octane unleaded. It made just over 500 hp and 430 ft lbs of tq.
Definitely fun, but we knew it had a bit more in it.
Switched to Pump 93 and it idled cleaner. We played with the jetting and added some timing, and it responded well.
We switched around to a colder plug and it ran even stronger, and another highlight was the 18hp gained by adding a 2" HVH Super Sucker Spacer.
On the final run, we wound up pushing to 39 Degrees of timing and our final numbers tallied to 578 HP @ 6900 and about 510 ft/lbs
Its going in a 71 Nova with a FB Performance built reverse manual TH350 with a brake, 8" Protorque 4500 Stall Converter and an 8.5" with 3.90s

I started building this before I started getting deep into the LS stuff, but still happy with it. Its a track oriented setup but I plan on beating the hell out of it on the street
