Default 750-800hp bbc

I thinking about scratching the idea of a turbo Ls and going with a bbc for the sake of simplicity. So my question is how to achieve this hp goal? I want to start with a block from blueprint engines that's bored for a 496 stroker kit. I don't have a budget yet but I don't want to break the bank. This will be a pump gas street car

800HP from a 496 on pump gas will be one stout motor and not very cheap. That is 1.6HP/CI. Same as a 350 making 560HP on pump gas. Certainly doable, but not cheap. If you look over on chevelles.com, there are some pretty good combos. I built a 496 using stock (ported) oval port heads and a pretty mild solid lifter cam for my 1971 Monte Carlo. It made about 500HP on pump gas. With good cylinder heads and a more aggressive roller cam, it would make closer to 600HP. I had around $5000 into the engine. Good cylinder heads and a roller cam setup would add $2500 more to that.

One day I also hope to build a BBC. As stated above, that power can be made from a 496 but it won't be too cheap.

I seem to find a lot of good BBC info on yellow bullet.

Good luck man!

Are you trying to make that power naturally aspirated? Making that kind of power is not nearly as difficult with a big block as with smaller motors. The 454 I have made just shy of 600 with just a solid roller cam and some lightly worked iron L88 heads. This was on pump gas at 10:1 compression. Could easily throw a plate kit on a combo like that and hit your power goal without spending a ton. Some better aftermarket heads and some more compression and you will be in the money, especially with that many cubes

Check out Mark's website. I owned one of his 406 shortblocks and it was as strong as advertised. You can see what he sells one of his 700HP pump gas motors for. $10,000 is a little cheaper than I would have guessed.

honestly if your going to buy a shortblock, a 454 496 540 632 all cost the same.

Go with a 632 some decent heads and you will make 800 hp easy

I have a similar set up. Its a 491 BBC that make 690/650 on junk 91 pump untuned. Mark Vortec pro makes some very nice combos that flat work. The key will be the right heads and cam with good machine work.

Very doable but youll spend a few bux making that number. Hard to get that kind of power to the ground
Are you looking to go 9s or Ok with a 10-11 sec street car?

talk to Mark hes very straight talk no bs guy

A basic 10:5-1 shortblock a real good cyl head, even a high quality SFT cam you can go fast without going nuts on $.
Friend runs high 10s if hes leaning on it with a very basic combo...Just under 11:1 454 2 bolt truck block..... Isky sold flat tappet AFR head etc drives it everywhere. As a builder refuses to use roller cams on em he has no issues go figure. It doesnt make anywhere near the number youre talking but flat moves
