Problem with oil dip Stick
Hi,
I bought an disassembled Impala (350 cui, 1970), therefore I have some problems to put it together.
I bought a new engine, which has the casting number 10066035, according http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm it is a
10066036...350...........2 or 4 bolt main...Target Master/Goodwrench crate motor, 2-piece rear seal, "Hecho en Mexico".
The problem is, that I am not able to put in my old oil dip stick from the former engine (casting no. 3970010). It is to wide at that part which I must put in the hole in the core ( In my old engine, the stick was on the driver site)
Are there different (diameter) sizes of sticks?
I think with this engine I have two possible position. Is this possible, or is the second one for something else?
If not which do I have to use, and how to plug the other one?
One on the driver site, which is located close to the spark plugs

That engine casting was produced so that it would fit a wide range of vehicles. The drivers side location is typically early models and the left side or passenger side is later models.
You may use either side. The exhaust manifolds will dictate which one is best. The other is then plugged with a small steel plug furnished with the engine, just drive into the hole you are not using.
I would use the drivers side if that is the stick setup you have. I am not sure why yours does not fit. Post up a picture of what you are using, maybe we can help.

I do not understand either why it does not fit. It fits definitely in my old engine.

It put in the marked part. It has to be completely in the engine right?

One a standard small block drivers side dipstick location has two tubes. The external one you have and there is one in the block that goes down into the oil pan to guide the dipstick past the crank..
Look in that hole and take a screwdriver or punch and see if you can press the tube down, it shouldn't take a lot of pressure to move it. Then the external tube you have should fit.

You mean there is a tube which ends in the pan, right? And this tube is not deep enough in the block and therefore I am not able to put in the oil dip stick tube, right?
Because, when I disassembled my old engine, there was no second tube from the block to the pan. Therefore I did not know, that there must be a second one.
If I am not able to press it down, do you think it helps to remove to pan and to tear the tube down by hand?
