Default Thinking about relocating to Georgia/South Carolina. Need some info on the area

Hey guys, I am looking at taking a job near Augusta, GA. I have lived in Illinois my whole life and am reasonably comfortable here, but it may have come time for a change.

What can you tell me about the area?
What is the local car scene like?
Is there a good drag strip in the area?
Would I be better off living in Georgia or South Carolina and why?
What about areas to avoid?
etc...

As you can guess I have a lot of questions and was hoping maybe some of my southern gear-heads could help answer them for me. Any info you can add in here would be appreciated.

Thanks

I can't speak for Augusta, but one plus you'll have is the opportunity to drive year round.

Jackson drag strip which is a 1/4 mile track is very popular located in Aiken which would probably be 30 mins give or take from Augusta.

1/4 mile track is definitely a plus. I was thinking all that would be around was 1/8 mile. I really don't see the track as much as I would like now and I have Rt. 66 speedway about 20 minutes from me. Maybe I'll have more time if I move there...

That's definitely a plus, and one that my wife has been saying repeatedly. She knows how to get to me...
