I know a Sales rep that works for Gentex and he finally found the right one to work correctly. The light works like the dome light did in the stock mirror. It comes on when the door is open and goes off slowly after it is closed. Mine also has a orange mood light that comes on when it gets dark outside and throws a orange glow down on the shifter and radio section. It's actually kind of cool and I get questions all the time when out cruising after sunset.

Here's the one I installed.... 50-GENK60 has everything. I can't remember about the dome light dimming. I think it just goes off... no dimming.
I couldn't find it on Ebay, but contacted a dealer in Goshen, IN who had a couple. I paid $300-350?

I know this is an old post but its better then starting a new one...
Wondering since its been 3 years has anyone found the best mirror for the trans am / camaro , want it to look roughly stock with the options Judge Smales had spoke about.

okay but in your photo it doesnt show the compass or temp, and you said it has everything so is it like just invisable when not on or something?? lol sorry if i sound nooby here just wanting to buy the correct rear view mirror. maybe get me a picture of it showing the displays thanks bud!

I didn't realize that the temp/compass got washed out in the picture. You can see the slightlty darker square in the upper right corner of the second picture. It will show the the compass and outside temperature in Green LED. It can be turned off. Easy to read, except sometimes with the top down. I'll look for another picture.

This is a bad picture. The square is also reflective, so a picture can be a pain to take. It's brighter and easier to read than this picture. The LED color is more blue than green.

Here's a website explaining the different part numbers for the Gentex mirrors. Apparently, they don't make the 50-GENK60 anymore. The 60 was important to me because I have a convertible and really need the map light. Many of the Gentex don't have map lights anymore.

I wouldn't be so quick to make that broad statement. Our 2000 came with a Donnelly (now MagnaDonnelly) mirror. I worked there at the time. They also did the side mirrors.
