The guy that made them said they were made out of mdf so i im assuming they got wet. well i dont know what else to make them out of maybe plexiglass.? ALso the black baffles that were originally on the car i dont have anymore so im also lost on where to get a template for new ones. can anyone help?

Just make a new template with cardboard.
Also after cutting out your new mounts give the mdf a good couple coats of spray paint before instaling them in the car.

Is the paint supposed to prevent the mdf from expanding when wet? Is there any other material I can use besides mdf?

mdf is the best bet just put a few good coats of black paint on them front and back to seal them. also if your not comfortable makeing them your self keeaudio(a sponsor)will make you some. give him a ring.

IMO, the MDF is your best bet, but you use any strong plastic or even sheet metal if you want. If you use sheet metal I would stil paint it(rust prevention)and also apply some sound deadening to it. And if you use plastic you need to use something that will not become hard and brittle.
