Default Amp and Sub Install Question

I'm installing an Amp and a Sub into my car.

It's a factory system.

Will hooking a "Line Converter" into my rear speaker wires give me all I need to hook up my amp?

It needs to pick up a "bass" signal to amplify right? Or will the amp decipher the bass/highs? And amplify the bass signal?

I have experience building boxes and doing aftermarket installs, but I've never dealt with going into a factory system and trying to get bass.

I'm really dreading swapping headunits and stuff. Its a car with navigation and such...

It sounds fine, just needs a little bass... Probably a 12" with a small amp will be plenty.

I'd check the BMW forums and see what it takes to swap one.
